Greenhouse SunnyMeadow

The Greenhouses will not fall.

We can still support them; we just do it without storing anything on-site and without equipment staged there. Not being able to clear the roads adds a level of difficulty, but it does not stop us. After each main storm, for years now, someone has walked the site and...

Operation Save the Hemlocks of Koulas Farm

Hemlock trees in town have been ravaged by disease, and they are still some of the most beautiful trees we have. The old, large stand we used to have at Wright is now almost entirely gone. Hemlocks hold a special place in my heart. Even when they are struggling, they...

Chelmsford Sledding 101: What You Need to know

It’s a holiday, we have fresh snow, and the question shows up every single time. Where can I sled today in Chelmsford, and what hill is best for my crew. One thing I love about COSS is we do not have blinders on. Open space is open space no matter who owns it. Town...

COSS supports individuals, community groups, and organizations through outdoor projects, educational efforts, and service initiatives. Our work includes assisting Scouts and nonprofits, helping local farmers, maintaining trails and gardens, building accessible infrastructure, and repurposing donated tools for public use.

Scouting

The Chelmsford Open Space Stewardship actively works with Scouting America. Since 2005 we have helped Scouts with over 20 Eagle projects and numerous camp-outs and educational nature walks.

Land Trusts and Conservation

The Chelmsford Open Space Stewardship works with Land Trusts and Conservation groups in Chelmsford and surrounding towns to preserve, improve, and protect the Open Spaces.

Local Farming

The Chelmsford Open Space Stewardship has supported local farmers and community growers helping to set up full hoop style green houses and individual growers' raised garden beds.

Wildlife Preservation

As stewards of open spaces, we aim to protect many locations for use by humans and wildlife - both flora and fauna. We aim to preserve native plants (especially pollinators) and make spaces that will attract wildlife. We support initiatives like the Newhouse Wildlife Rescue and provide native pollinator plants to those who would like to use them.

Every time you think of a city, you have to think green, green, green. Every time you see concrete jungle, you must find open spaces. And when you find open spaces, make it so people can get to them.
