The Chelmsford Open Space Stewardship (COSS) is a member-supported, all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preserving and enhancing open space, trails, and recreational opportunities in the Chelmsford area. Founded in 2005 and incorporated in 2025, COSS works to increase public awareness and appreciation of the community’s shared natural resources while promoting accessibility, inclusion, and environmental stewardship.
COSS supports individuals, community groups, and organizations through outdoor projects, educational efforts, and service initiatives. Our work includes assisting Scouts and nonprofits, helping local farmers, maintaining trails and gardens, building accessible infrastructure, and repurposing donated tools for public use.
In addition, COSS organizes family-friendly activities such as guided walks, educational programs, music, and cultural events that connect people to nature and to each other. With a commitment to collaboration and sustainability, COSS continues to adapt to community needs while fostering strong connections between people, land, and the future we share.
