Vet breakfast

Vets are All Ages

One of the hidden gems in town is the Veterans Breakfast at the Senior Center, and I think some people either do not know about it or may have the wrong idea about who it is for. Do you need to be a senior? Absolutely not. Veterans of all ages are welcome and...

Raised Gardens must be different heights

I’ve seen a few questions come up about the raised gardens at the Senior Center, and I was there today, so here is the straight answer on how it works. If you are interested in getting a plot, it is done through a lottery. You do need to be over 60 or a senior center...

Easter Hunts

Egg Hunts are Broken

As with a lot of what we do for summer programs, this one started the same way most of our ideas do. A conversation. A “what if.” Nothing formal yet, just kicking things around and seeing what might work for the community. One of the things COSS has always tried to do...

COSS supports individuals, community groups, and organizations through outdoor projects, educational efforts, and service initiatives. Our work includes assisting Scouts and nonprofits, helping local farmers, maintaining trails and gardens, building accessible infrastructure, and repurposing donated tools for public use.

Scouting

The Chelmsford Open Space Stewardship actively works with Scouting America. Since 2005 we have helped Scouts with over 20 Eagle projects and numerous camp-outs and educational nature walks.

Land Trusts and Conservation

The Chelmsford Open Space Stewardship works with Land Trusts and Conservation groups in Chelmsford and surrounding towns to preserve, improve, and protect the Open Spaces.

Local Farming

The Chelmsford Open Space Stewardship has supported local farmers and community growers helping to set up full hoop style green houses and individual growers' raised garden beds.

Wildlife Preservation

As stewards of open spaces, we aim to protect many locations for use by humans and wildlife - both flora and fauna. We aim to preserve native plants (especially pollinators) and make spaces that will attract wildlife. We support initiatives like the Newhouse Wildlife Rescue and provide native pollinator plants to those who would like to use them.

Every time you think of a city, you have to think green, green, green. Every time you see concrete jungle, you must find open spaces. And when you find open spaces, make it so people can get to them.
