Swung by Sunny Meadow this morning, and the memorial area looks very different.
I fully understand this is a starting point and there is still cleanup and new work ahead. That is part of any project like this.
The good news is there is no noticeable damage to the pad or the feeding trough, which is important given the history and effort that went into those pieces. The crew at DPW clearly knows how to run that equipment. They are that good; I would bet they could flip a dime with it.
If you see any reddish discoloration on the pad, that was produced when the Trex was power washed. We saw the same thing in other areas during cleanup for the rededication and were able to remove it with a good power wash. I guess it is good to know that if you power wash Gen 1 Trex, the color can bleed. That is something I did not consider at the time, but we easily fixed it.
As a side note, the porta-potty is now in the main lot. That gives it much better visibility and easier access for people using the rail trail, along with a flatter and more accessible approach.
There is also a lot of material staged on site, so I am guessing the new ADA path from the lot to the memorial will be going in. The current path has always been more of a social path with gravel dropped on it, and the grade is not ideal. A properly graded accessible path will be a meaningful improvement.
For now, consider these the early stages. I am looking forward to seeing how this comes together as the work progresses, especially around access and the memorial space.
