This short captures the vision that so many members and residents had long before the Koulas Task Force was formed. A place where people could both play and relax while honoring history and the natural environment. All of these elements are in balance at Koulas. It is that balance that draws people in and inspires them to improve the experience.
This idea moved from the Koulas Task Force to the work parties and became the seed that grew into Friends of Koulas Farm. Like the Task Force, this group is inclusive and always reaches out to welcome new volunteers. The core remains the original Task Force members and the Koulas family. Led by John Ray and Phil Stanway, the group has grown with people like Dave Dodge, who brings new energy and the perspective of a young family. The usual suspects are there too. Chris, Mark, and a loyal line of volunteers who show up when needed. The hope is that many more will join because this is a community space that needs community to flourish.
A special thanks goes to the Chinese Bible Church of Greater Lowell, which has sent multiple work parties, sometimes with twenty volunteers, to help with heavy work. They will also host the Community Tool Shed, which will not only serve Koulas but the entire area.
We also need to recognize Bill Vines, who offers steady guidance, clears hurdles, and understands the long view. When everyone pulls in the same direction, truly magical things can happen. Not through money but through heart and commitment.
As Pete’s video says, happy holidays. We hope to see you on the trails. Whether you are sledding, walking your dog, exploring with the kids, or simply watching the stars. It is quickly becoming a place you want to visit more than once. And did I mention it is the best place in town to see the night sky?
